Both are called kapoor. Both are used in aarti. But they are two quite different substances — with different sources, different burn characteristics, and different traditional roles.
Regular kapoor is refined camphor — typically synthetic or highly refined from camphor laurel wood. It is inexpensive, burns quickly and cleanly, and produces a strong, sharp aroma. Perfect for daily aarti tablets.
Bhimseni kapoor is natural, traditional-grade crystalline camphor — sourced from the Dryobalanops aromatica tree native to Indonesia and traditionally used in premium Indian rituals. It burns slower, gentler, and produces a distinctly aromatic, lingering fragrance.
Both are ritual-appropriate. Regular kapoor for daily use — Bhimseni for festivals, important paath, and homes that appreciate the traditional grade.
A well-stocked household keeps both. A jar of refined kapoor for daily aarti, and a smaller jar of Bhimseni for the occasions that call for the older tradition.
